There is a daunting task ahead of us: to see the juvenile justice and corrections systems in the United States transformed into something worthy of a wise and compassionate nation, rather than the national disgrace they are today.

Accordingly, we have asked some of the foremost experts in American youth justice and rehabilitation to help guide our policies and outreach strategies.

Kathryn Medico is co-author of A Perversion of Justice: A Southern Tragedy of Murder, Lies, and Innocence Betrayed (Avon imprint of HarperCollins 2004—the best-selling and most definitive book about the crime).
She is also the foster mother of Alex King.
Paul Mones is a Portland OR attorney who specializes in defending children who kill their parents. He is also author of When a Child Kills: Abused Children Who Kill Their Parents (Pocket Books 1992), as well as several other books and numerous articles and interviews on the subject.

Father Val J. Peter is executive director emeritus of Boys and Girls Town, the world-famous youth rehabilitation institution founded by Father Edward J. Flannigan. According to The Congressional Record, Father Peter is “renowned as one of the principal supporters of youth in the world.”
